Each notebook or desktop or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, and any apps that are currently installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, every single application runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server packages feature three Linux distributions which you may pick from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being 100 % free, the OSs are extremely stable and safe and the main reason to offer you all three of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run every app that you'd like, as different pieces of software have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have developed a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to handle your hosting content. Needless to say, if you decide that you need another OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on your server as different apps can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade your OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
