In case you notice a big increase in the online traffic to your site and if after you look at the visitor statistics it turns out that it comes from locations all over the world or from other web servers, your website is most likely being attacked by an automatic bot. Such pieces of software go through random websites attempting to log in to their administration area through a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments beneath every article where such an option is provided. However, that is something rather common in recent times, but if you know the IP addresses from which the attacks come, you may block them, so the bots will not be able to access your Internet site in any way. Naturally, you may block IPs even if you allow only people from specific countries to access your Internet site.
IP Blocking in Cloud Hosting
If you have a cloud hosting account with us and you want to block one or several IP addresses, you may use the IP Blocking tool, that is integrated into our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel. By using a rather simple interface, you can prevent any IP from accessing your content even if you have never had a web hosting account before. All it takes to do that is to log within to your CP, to check out the IP Blocking section, to pick a certain domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to type in the IP address. You won't have to do anything challenging if you'd like to block a whole network - you will simply have to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the full range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs will be listed in the same exact section, so you shall be able to remove any one of them from the blacklist with only a click.
IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, will allow you to solve the issue with unwanted traffic very easily. It comes with an IP blocking tool in which you may add IP addresses with a few clicks. All domains and subdomains you have in the account shall be listed in a drop-down menu, so you simply have to select the one you need and then type in the IP address which should be blocked. If you would like to block a whole range, a C-class network for instance, you just have to type the first three octets of the IP and leave the last one blank. This shall block all 254 addresses, so you shall not have to input them by hand. As all the IPs that you add in this section will be listed, you may easily unblock any of them by clicking the Delete button associated with the given IP.
